The compact MOCAheart device keeps you and your family up-to-date about your heart health.

When we saw that PSFK selected MOCAheart as one of their Top Five Health Innovations of the Week, we knew we had to take a closer look.

MOCAheart, created by a company called MOCACARE, is a compact device that lets users check their heart rate, blood oxygen level and other vital signs on the go. To make things easier, it comes with a custom case that fits on your smartphone. To help fund the project, the company launched a Kickstarter campaign, which ends on December 24.

What separates MOCAheart from other mobile heart devices is how it allows your family members to also monitor your health through its app. In a press release, MOCACARE explained that the “app is based on contacts and a messaging interface, letting users notify family or close friends of their measurement or location, enabling them to unobtrusively participate in the health management process.”

Not ready for your family members to have such easy access to your vital signs? In some cases, you may want them to, Dr. Daniel Hong, who developed MOCAHeart, explained to TechCrunch.

“When I was in the U.S., I’d call my parents and ask about their health. They kept insisting they were okay, even though my father actually had high blood pressure. Then he had a stroke. As a doctor, I felt I should have known earlier,” Dr. Hong told TechCrunch

The more than 300 backers on their Kickstarter page appear to agree.
