The Hello Heart app compiles test results and medical data into a customized dashboard to help patients truly grasp what all the numbers mean.

Maayan Cohen had amassed two years’ worth of medical records and vital signs relating to her boyfriend’s cancerous brain tumor. But even with all that data, she wasn’t able to determine whether his condition was improving or worsening, she told Steve Tobak of Fox Business.

The hardship of managing a serious illness is what inspired her to create Hello Heart, a new app for the iPhone and Apple Watch that could help the 85.6 million Americans “living with some form of cardiovascular disease or the after-effects of stroke,” according to the American Heart Association.

The concept of a portable health tracker isn’t new. Currently under review by the FDA, Scanadu measures everything from pulse and blood pressure to temperature by users briefly holding up the device to their temple. And Apple’s HealthKit allows patients to store data from their fitness and health apps in one location.

The Hello Heart app, however, goes one step further by compiling test results and medical data into a customized dashboard to help patients truly grasp what all the numbers mean.

“We take and turn it into actionable data that patients can understand,” Cohen told an audience at the 2015 Women Business Leaders Summit. “Doesn’t feel great to finally know what’s going on to know you’re OK?”

Because U.S. hospitals and health clinics are already using the app, patients can begin anytime importing their medical data into their Apple Watches and iPhones.

“The next big product development will be personalized tips that help you improve over time in baby steps,” Cohen told Fox Business when asked what the $1.3 million in seed money she received will be used toward. “We will learn your lifestyle and adjust the tips according to what will work for you, since we know they already work for others like you.”
